How do these products differ in quality?

The use of plasticised PVC: Rimblades products are ultimately more durable than imitated products. Plastics used in Rimblades products alternate depending on the required use and finish. For example, our Rimblades Ultra wheel rim protectors are composed of the thermoplastic elastomer Santoprene. The characteristics of vulcanised rubber are combined with thermoplastics to provide flexibility and durability, perfect for customers seeking a high-quality flexible product composed of higher-grade materials. Santoprene offers reduced weight and increased durability and, although it is an expensive and premium grade material, or products retails at a quarter of the price of some of our competitors. Rimblades copies however are often composed of base form PVC, providing a brittle product that will easily break under the stress exerted by minor wheel scrapes and light kerb impact.

The use of M3 Tape: Amongst cheaper materials used alongside PVC in Rimblades copies is M3 tape instead of 3M. All Rimblades products utilise 3M VHB tape, as one of the strongest tapes ever put on the market, for ensured security and durability of all our products. Being virtually invisible, 3M tape is a highly technical tape which reaches maximum bond at 72 hours using viscous flow. Our continued use of 3M tape is informed by the rigorous quality testing on moisture resistance, UL durability, accelerated weathering, outdoor weathering, thermal cycling and fatigue resistance that ensure the highest quality durable product. Acrylic foam and adhesive absorb energy and relax stresses internally, protecting the adhesive bond on the substrate and providing a longer lasting bond to increase the longevity of our products performance. Imitations of Rimblades products use inferior products in comparison, such as M3 tape. This tape is a cheaper alternative with a lesser quality that does not attest to the performance of genuine Rimblades products. Alongside 3M’s personal testing, Rimblades have also been meticulously tested by renowned automotive testers, Millbrook, including the stringent test manufacturer OE testing involving a 10,000 KM continual endurance test.

By using bonding technology there is minimal damage to the wheel as the sealed bond prevents the intrusion of unwanted sand or dirt that can enter the bond on lower quality products and become abrasive to the wheel’s surface. By using a high-quality bond, the tyre bead is also ensured to never be compromised, improving the quality and longevity of your driving experience as our products combat issues such as air seepage and pressure drop.

No Adhesion Promoters: Alongside the poorer quality tapes used in imitations of our products is the absence of Adhesion Promoters. Every Rimblades product is supplied with Adhesion Promoters to strongly support the performance of 3M tapes. In addition to this, our products come with a supply of Rimblades wheel cleaning wipes to correctly prep surfaces to ensure every product purchased adheres completely to fulfil its potential of maximum longevity. Imitations of our kits supply cheaper alcohol wipes that do not effectively clean the area ready for adhesion, providing a poorly installed product and far less protection for alloy rims.

Our adhesion promoters aid an easy to install system that can be just as easily removed with zero damage, providing a system perfect for long term vehicles and leased cars that need reinstating at the end of term.

How can these products be avoided?

Imitation products of Rimblades are often marketed and sold under the same name as a direct copy of our protected design.
